I was super excited to hear Safe Haven would be filming in the area, and that Josh Duhamel was cast as the lead. I was able to get out of work early on Friday, July 13th, and drove to Southport, NC with my friend Katy. A series of kind hearted people (including Katy who brought me with her!) landed us on set. We were watching JD film a scene where he jumped off a dock into the water in an attempt to save his son. He did one take, then came out of the water to dry off. We saw him walk through the 'store' set they had built, and he walked out onto the porch. He saw us, and came over (probably one of the coolest part of the experience was how he approached us on his own- no one told him to come over and we didn't call to him). He asked if we were having fun, and introduced himself. We chatted for a bit (probably at least 5 mins or so, maybe longer) and I told him I could cross it off my bucket list. He asked what, and I told him #131- meeting him. He jokingly said, "131?! I am that far down the list?!" The crew member who had brought us onto set asked JD if he would mind getting a picture, and he said sure. He even picked out a good spot with the water in the background. We thanked him and told him how great it was to meet him. It was honestly one of the coolest actor-encounters I've ever had (definitely the top 3!). I was so impressed by how down to earth and genuine he was.
**Unfortunately, the pic that was taken of us was lost (file damaged) before I had a chance to save it that evening. But luckily, things worked out for me the next time I was in Southport (7/20/12) and I was able to get a 'replacement' pic. :D
